CBD store in West Asheville is latest target of thieves

Another CBD store in Asheville broken was into. It happened at Instant Karma on Haywood Road sometime late Monday night or Tuesday morning.

“When I got here this morning, [the front] door was completely shattered,” Instant Karma general manager Mike O’Dekirk said.

O’Dekirk said he got the call from Asheville Police at about 6:45 Tuesday morning.

“Come to find out, someone had thrown a rock to our front door and came in and stolen a bunch of CBD flower,” O’Dekirk said.

He said about $1,700 worth of CBD flower and a few other items were taken.

“Then they stole some rolling papers and a glass pipe and a grinder, I believe,” O’Dekirk said.

The items left O’Dekirk with some suspicions about the criminal’s intent.

“I hope they are not trying to resell it, because they would be in for a rude awakening from whoever purchased it from them,” O’Dekirk said. “This stuff does not get you high. It’s less than 0.3% THC.”

Though it’s the first time this store has been broken into, there have been similar cases nearby.

“I know this has happened to several other locations,” O’Dekirk said.

At least two others this year alone. In January, Franny’s Farmacy in Hendersonville was broken into, then in March, Clover CBD in Asheville was the target.

In both cases, the thieves took CBD flowers.

“This is medicine, and you are taking this away from folks that actually need it,” O’Dekirk said.

At Instant Karma, the damage has been cleaned up and now the focus is on moving forward.

“We will have to make some phone calls and restock, but life will go on,” O’Dekirk said.

But, he said, they’re still hoping for justice.

“They stole from a place called Instant Karma. Hopefully, it comes back to them pretty quick.”

O’Dekirk and his team will be reviewing security footage from the store next door to help police catch the person or people responsible.
