Officers shot at during standoff in Alleghany County, ends peacefully

ALLEGHANY Co., Va (WSET)- A standoff in Alleghany County is now over and the suspect in custody.

Late Wednesday night, authorities were called to a home in Iron Gate.

They were called out around 9:30 p.m. to the area of Commerce Avenue and 8th Street.

Authorities say they were shot at on arrival.

Sheriff Kevin Hall with the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office spoke in a press conference.

Sheriff Hall says he heard 8 to 10 gunshots firsthand when he arrived on scene.

Officers were pinned down at the scene and had to call for backup.

Hall says officers never fired their weapons.

He also says that another officer who grew up with the suspect was able to talk him down.

No one was hurt.

Police have not released the identity of the suspect.

Sheriff Hall says the suspect was very intoxicated.

There will be additional charges at a later time.
