Yemassee police respond to home invasion, kidnapping, sexual assault

YEMASSEE, S.C. – Yemassee police responded to a report of a home invasion, kidnapping, sexual assault Saturday night.

Police dispatched to the house on Hunt Street in Yemassee just before 8 p.m. Saturday to find a female victim inside the home.

A spokesperson for Yemassee said the male suspect fled the scene before they arrived. While they were at the home, they say the suspect drove by the house. Officers followed him down the street, where they say he then stopped the car and ran on foot.

Officials say the victim does know the suspect. They are waiting on warrants to make an arrest.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) was called to assist in processing the scene.
